Closing Summer

Where did the summer go?  It went into our hearts, our memories, our muscles, and bones.  It became another layer of who we are and what we hold dear.  Thank you, God, for summers.

  1. I love the photo of the single apple. Such hope. Such potential. So brave.

  2. Love your updates! Cousin Camp seems like it will be a lot of fun for my grandchildren...if I'm ever blessed with some!
What are the clear tubes coming out of the water balloons? Straws?
Our oldest daughter planted a Granny Smith apple in my flower pot when she three, announcing it would grow. With the faith of a child, it did! It lived it's first ten years in pots till the roots grew out of the bottom of the undersized pot. It was finally planted in the earth when a windstorm caused it to split in half. My husband stuck in it the ground with just a few roots on the 7' tree. Again, it grew. For years it gave tiny, sour apples. This year, a fist size Apple that was reported to be delicious! But just one, thanks to tent caterpillars and a late spring hailstorm! It's earned it's place in the center of the backyard for another year!

  3. FUN post!! It reminds me of Jennifer Jo's *Quotidian*....what a great way to document the *ordinary* and *not-so-ordinary* things of life!! What a BUSY family you are! Your summer looks like it was full and fun and restful and crazy all rolled up into one. Happy fall to you! Hugs, Camille

  4. Sounds (and looks) like a great summer. Your "Cousin Camp" could be the start of a great and wonderful thing. Our kids and their cousins are all young adults now. When they were kids the families were together almost every Sunday after Church for dinner (or lunch - depending on your part of the country) and an afternoon and evening of playing together and just being family. Now, as young adults that are not all geographically close, they make it a priority to attend the Cousin's Party which happens every year sometime between Christmas and New Years Day. They do their own arrangements, meal planning and cooking, and whatever else goes on for a long afternoon and evening of reconnecting, catching up, reminiscing, and schooling all the spouses in the "family lore". In a time when so many people are disconnected from the strong backbone of faith and family, it's a wonderful to see them so dedicated to remaining strong in both.

Just a friendly reminder, if you know me personally please try to refrain from using my name. There are those who may try to locate me, break into my pantry and steal my pickled beets. Thanks:-).
